Ms Margaret Heng is concurrently the Executive Director of the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and Chief Executive of Singapore Hotel and Tourism Education Centre (SHATEC), the training arm of SHA. A veteran with more than 30 years of hospitality experience, Ms Heng participates actively in many councils and committees. She is currently sitting in the SkillsFuture Advice Functional Committee as a member with the South West Community Development Council (SWCDC), looking into the outreach strategies of advocating lifelong learning within the community. She was conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) Award in 2007 for her service to the National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council, and the Public Service Star (BBM) Award in 2017 for her work with the National Crime Prevention Council. She is currently the Secretary-General of the ASEAN Hotel and Restaurant Association. She is also the Vice-President of the Asia Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (APacCHRIE).
To future-proof the South West Community, the South West Community Development Council (SWCDC) launched the SWFuture Plan to meet future and evolving community needs. One of the key focuses is on SkillsFuture Advice @ South West that looks into the importance of skills upgrading and lifelong learning. To prepare Singaporeans for future economy and world, the SkillsFuture Advice @ South West programme brought SkillsFuture nearer to the community through collaborations and partnerships to organise a series of profile-centric workshops, roadshows, job fairs, training, local programmes and hands-on opportunities to engender a culture of lifelong learning.
